News
May 25, 2004:

Evgeny feels better now and has been released from the hospital so it's a good news. He is still in Moscow but he will come back soon in St Petersburg. As you know, he organises several shows which will take place on may 28 and 29 in St Petersburg. Normally, he would have skated in these show, but now, nothing is sure. Even if he doesn't skate, Evgeny will appear on ice to talk to the audience. That's all for the moment.
May 21, 2004:

Here is a russian article with two photos of Evgeny at the hospital. The article says that Evgeny feels better and that his girlfriend, Ulyana, stay with him all the time. Also, his mother came from St Petersburg to be with him.

Good news! Evgeny's state has improved. He has no longer fever. But Alexei Mishin, his coach, said that Evgeny won't skate at the show which will take place in St Petersburg on may 28 and 29. However, he will be present at the show and will certainly talk to the audience.
May 20, 2004:

Happily, it seems that Evgeny's illness isn't as serious as medias said. His coach, Alexei Mishin sais that nothing thritened Zhenya's life and health. And normally, Zhenya may be able to participate at the show that he organizes and which will take place on May 28 and 29. But nevertheless, he still have a double-side pneumonia and an ear infection, and he must stay at the hospital for at least one week because he must have a treatment. Otherwise, Evgeny's disease could become a lot more serious. I think we'll have more news soon.
May 20, 2004:

Very sad new. We've just learnt that Evgeny is very sick. He has a bilateral pneumonia and an ear infection. He is now at the Moscow hospital in the intensive care unit. That's terrible.:( All we can do is hoping that he will feel better very soon.

Here is the article: (Thank you Astar for the translation)

Famous skater, olympic champion (a mistake on their part..) Evgeny Plushenko was rushed to the ER of the Moscow hospital #36 on Tusday. The 21 year old athlete was found to have two-sided pneumonia and also an inflammation of the ear. (please excuse my medical terms) As it became known to MK, the skater began feeling sick in the evening. Most likely he got this illness (otitis media with mastoiditis) during the latest tour-the Russian team traveled around Russia with exhibition numbers. For instance, the athletes had time to perform in Omsk, Novosibirsk.... But to Rostov the team will go without Plushenko. Evgeny was delivered to the hospital with a high fever, the athlete was very upset, he almost didn't talk and always complained of feeling weak. The doctor discovered an two-sided inflammation of the lungs, left-sided otit (inflammation of the middle ear) and mastoidit. Beside that, both of the inflammations led to a heavy intoxication. In was apparent that both illnesses were left untreated for a long time, probably because of a cold. The famous patient was rushed to reanimation (again I don't know how to translate that exactly) He was examined by a "lor" and an infectionist, and now there is a question of whether or not surgery is needed to remove pus. If it is not done, the inflammation may move on to the brain and lead to meningitis. However doctors don't exclude treatment with antibiotics. The patient with probably stay in the hospital for a about a week.
May 12, 2004:

Evgeny is actually touring with the Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh tour in Russia. There is no review available for the moment, but there are some off ice photos.
Go here to see them.
April 27, 2004:

Evgeny will participate at the Irina Lobacheva and the Ilia Averbukh's tour in Russia. It's called "Ice Symphony" and it will take place on may. The cast will include: Evgeny, Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh, Elena Sokolova, Viktoria Volchkova, Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov, Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin, Alexander Abt...
After that, Evgeny will organize his own shows which will take place on may 28th and 29th in St Petersburg.
April 7, 2004:

Evgeny won the Marshall's International Figure Skating Challenge which took place yesterday in the USA. In this competition, each skater had to skate one long program. Of course, Evgeny skated to "Tribute to Nijinksy". He beat Brian Joubert, but it was very close. All the informations available about the program's content are very confused for the moment so I will put more details when it will be clearer. Nevertheless, it seems that Joubert did two quadruple jumps and that Evgeny did only one quad or even no quad. We don't know exactly. But if he did less quads than Joubert, it would explain the close results.
His marks:

Presentation: 5.8 5.9 5.9 5.9 5.9

Evgeny's quote about the competition: "If you win the championship, you should just go forward," Plushenko said of a busy schedule. "I skated the last four days. I didn't jump at all. I just started yesterday. It was the final competition of the season, so I'm happy."
April 3, 2004:

Evgeny is currently touring with Champion on ice until May 2, 2004. According to some reports, Evgeny is doing the program with the reversible costume he did at the World championships.
Nevertheless, he will participate at his last competition of the season on April 6. It's called "Marshalls World Skating Challenge". It takes place in the USA.There are only six skaters in each category. Evgeny's opponents will be Tim Goebel, Johnny Weir, Michael Weiss, Evan Lysacek and Brian Joubert. Good luck Evgeny!
After the Champion on ice tour, Evgeny will organize his own show, like last year.
March 28, 2004:

Evgeny did three programs at the World championships exhibition. Two of them were new. He wore a new costume. It's a sort of dinner jacket imitation with black pants and black jacket too. On his jacket, he has sequin and there is a tie. But it's not a real tie, just a picture.
Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3, Pic 4.

First program: Evgeny skated to the music "Hafanana" by Afric Simone. I think he did a triple toe and a double axel. He did a new straightline footwork. He was on one feet during all the footwork. It was impressive. This program wasn't very long but it certainly because the encore was.

Encore: Merveillous program. He said some time ago that he wanted to do a program in which he would wear a skirt and imitate Britney Spears. In this program, he didn't imitate Britney Spears (happily?) but he wore a skirt. Actually not exactly. He wore a jacket but the jacket become a skirt when he take it off. The program is a sort of meeting between a boy and a girl. And alternately, he played the girl by taking off his jacket, and the boy. He is such a great actor. It was very cute. At one moment he went in the audience and invited a (lucky) woman to danse with him. One time again it was very cute. He did if I remember well a triple toe and a double axel.

Encore 2: I don't think it was expexted but he did ,as at euro, an encore with Edvin Marton on Beethoven's 5th symphony. Normally, Marton should have play violin while Totmianina/Marinin skated. But they didn't skated because Tatiana is injured, so I think that's why Evgeny did an 2nd encore. During it, he did a triple-triple-double combination and a double axel. He also did the footwork of his sp.
March 27, 2004:

Results of the World championships:
Evgeny won his third World title. That's fantastic.

Long program: Evgeny won the long program, and so the World championships ahead of Joubert and Lindeman. He skated to "Tribute to Nijinsky" and did a wonderful long program. Nevertheless he falled on his last jump, the triple loop, but it didn't matter because his program was far better than those of the other skaters. He really did a great peformance.
His jumps: Quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop-double loop combination, quadruple toeloop, triple axel, triple axel-half loop-triple flip combination, triple lutz, triple salchow, triple loop(fall).

Short program: Evgeny did one of his best short program of the season. He skated to his "Flamenco" program. All was clean and of course he is first after the short program.
His jumps: Quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop combination, triple axel, triple lutz.

Qualifications:
Evgeny is first in his group after the qualifying program. He did a great program. He skated to his "St Petersburg 300" program. His only mistake was that he did a double salchow instead of a triple.
His jumps: Quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop combination, triple axel, triple axel-triple toeloop, triple lutz, double salchow, triple flip, triple loop.

March 21, 2004:

There are some news of today's practice. Evgeny landed lots of great quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop combinations and even a new combination: quadruple toeloop-triple loop. Evgeny seems to be in a great form. Tomorrow are the qualifications. Good luck Evgeny.
March 20, 2004:

Evgeny arrived in Dortmund and had his first practice today. Apparently, he is in a good mood and had a good practice. He landed several triple axel. That's all for the moment but there will be more news soon.
March 14, 2004:

Evgeny will certainly play in a movie. That's apparently not a rumor but we haven't many details yet. His partner will be the ballerina Anastasia Volochkova. On one hand, it's said that Evgeny and Anastasia would play a couple in love. Here is an extract of an article which talk about this movie:
"It will be a love story told by the language of dance. In the beginning Zhenya(Evgeny) does triple toe loops at the rink, and Nastya crawls along the boards. But later Nastya is performing fouetté on stage and Plushenko unskillfully tries to jump. Art helps them to fall in love with each other... Viewers will be able to see their dance together," tells the choreographer."
But on the other hand, it's said that it wouldn't be a movie but a music video in which Evgeny would play a dancer. Nothing it's sure about the story, so let's see what will happen.
February 13, 2004:

Evgeny skated at the Sarajevo exhibition which took place on february 9. He skated to the song "Logical song" by Supertramp. He wore this costume. He did a double axel and a triple toeloop-double toeloop-double loop combination.
February 8, 2004:

European championships results

Exhibition:
Today was the exhibiton of the European championships. Evgeny skated to "Tribute to nijinsky", and Edvin Marton was playing violin while Evgeny skated. He completed a great program, he was very smiling and happy to be there. He did a triple toeloop, and two double axel. He even did a Biellman spin. The audience was cheering a lot. After he did an encore on the symphony number 5 of Beethoven. He did a triple toeloop-triple toeloop-double loop combination and a double axel. He also did during the encore the footworks of his short program. The audience was wonderful and showed Evgeny how much they love him.

Long program:
Evgeny lost the european championships behind Brian Joubert. He did his program "Tribute to Nijinsky" and as I told you previously, he had a new and wonderful costume. But he completely missed his program. It's very unusual to see him like that. It was very painful to watch this program. He began his program with a perfect quadruple-triple-double combination. All was fine. But after, nothing went well. He tried a triple axel but did only a single one and falled on the landing, he single another triple axel anf falled on the triple flip. What a nightmare. He was very brave to finish his program. He tried to replace some jumps and so has modified his choreography. But it wasn't enough to win, especially when we know that Joubert did a perfect program.
After the competition, Evgeny said that he felt well and that he didn't know why this happened. He said that maybe it was a psychological problem and that he plans to go to worlds and skate better.
Evgeny has only proved thursday that he is a human being and that he can't be perfect and win all the time. But he shouldn't be worried, all his fans love and support him. For sure he will do better at the world championships next month.
His jumps:
Quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop-double loop, single axel(fall), single axel, triple axel-triple toeloop-double loop, triple flip(fall), triple lutz, triple loop, triple axel, double salchow.

At the show Art on ice, which took place in Switzerland on january, Evgeny skated his long program, Tribute to Nijinsky, and he had a new costume! Since the beginning of the season, he has worn his adagio costume for his long program, I don't know why.
Click here to see the new costume.
January 30, 2004:

Evgeny arrived in Budapest (Hungary). The European championships start next week, but Evgeny's knee bother him one time again. Indeed, he has a torn meniscus on one knee and besides he has just injuried his other knee. Nevertheless, he says that he wants to compete but admitted that his knee bother him. So we'll see what will happen tuesday with the short program. Go Zhenya, and good luck for the European championships!!!

December 14, 2003:

Evgeny finished second of the Grand Prix Final behind Emanuel Sandhu. Nevertheless it was his best program since the beginning of the season. He didn't lost because of a bad skating but because he did too much. Indeed, Evgeny did three combinations in his program whereas only two combination are allowed by program. Ans so the third combination didn't count. The new system of points shows some weakness.
Evgeny did a new combination one time again: Quadruple toeloop/double loop. It's very impressive to see.

November 16, 2003:

Evgeny did his Adagio program at the Trophee Lalique exhibition. And of course, he wore the Adagio costume. He smiled a lot. He had fans in the audience. When he came on the ice, they shouted his name. It made him smile. The program begin. He did a combination of 3 jumps: 3T-3T-2L. Then 2A,circular footwork, 3T, sit spin, straightline footwork, final spin. One time again, the audience gave him big applauses. He seemed happy of this. He is the only skater who came back for an encore. His fans shouted his name again, and Evgeny sent a kiss to the audience. Then, he was in the start position and the St Petersburg 300 music began. But it wasn't the right part. So he went to Gwendal Peizerat who was the speaker of the exhibition to tell him that it wasn't the right part of the music. Then, TV showed us that Mishin was explaining the situation to a man. Evgeny was talking to Gwendal, and finally Gwendal certainly told him to do his encore without music. And so Evgeny did it. But he didn't skate a part of the St Petersburg program. Instead, he did a 3T-3T-2L-2L combination. He received again big applause from the audience.
November 15, 2003:

Evgeny won the long program (and so the Trophee lalique) with a very good program. Today, his knee doesn't seem to bother him at all. He seemed happy to be there.I don't know why, but this time again, he wore his Adagio costume. First jump combination: Quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop-double loop very easy. Triple toeloop, triple axel-double toeloop, triple axel, triple flip, donut spin. And then he did the circular footwork, but at the end of the step sequence, he sends a kiss to the audience. So cute . Then triple lutz, double loop ( instead of a triple loop, the only mistake in this program), Biellman spin, Biellman spiral, good footwork, triple salchow, sit spin, final spin combination. At the end of the program, Evgeny was very happy. The audience gave him big applause, a part of the audience even stood up. French love him. Mishin gave him the usual kiss. In the kiss and cry, there was a woman with Evgeny and Mishin. I don't know who she is. It was a very good free program for Evgeny. He landed all his jumps easily, he had a good speed, good choreography.
His marks:

November 2, 2003:

Evgeny won the gold medal at Skate Canada. It wasn’t his best performance, but it was pretty good when we know that he has a knee injury. He skated to his new program, Tribute to Nijinsky, but he was wearing his Adagio costume. Surely that his new costume isn’t ready yet. He is first ahead of Jeff Buttle and Takeshi Honda.
His jumps: Quadruple toeloop, triple toeloop, triple axel, triple lutz, triple flip, double axel, triple loop, triple salchow/single toeloop.

October 31, 2003:

Evgeny is first after the short program at Skate Canada. He skated to his new program Flamenco. His skating was rather good, despite the fact he has a knee injury and that he was sick the week before the competition. He was very happy to land the 4/3 combination because he wasn’t able to land it at practise the week before. This program include hard footworks, a donut spin and some biellman’s spins.

His short program is a Flamenco and the long program is dedicated to the russian ballet dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. He skated on a violin music. The few reports available for the moment say that this free program is a master-piece. Zhenya will show these new programs at Skate Canada at the end of the month. So, let’s see. I will try to put videos of these programs as soon as I can.
