Interviews

No matter how disappointed Evgeni Plushenko was after the conclusion of the championships, he answered our reporter's questions with the honor of a professional.

Evgeny: I don't know why axels weren't working today. If I could deal with long ago - mastered jumps, I would have won without questions. It's easy to explain everything with psycology. It's been a while since I had serious opponents at Europeans.

Interviewer: You were dethroned at Europeans...
Evgeny: There is still Worlds left. I will definetly take part in the World Championships in Dortmund and will try to defend my title. And prove that I can conquer my own nerves.

Interviewer: Did defeat become a tragedy for you?
Evgeny: Not at all. Life goes on, there is room for highs and lows. You need to make correct conclusions, then victories will come again.

Interviewer: Is your health alright?
Evgeny: Everythings alright, meaning, in this seasons its been worse. Either way, I'm not tempted to blame everything on injuries.

Interviewer: Do you have a will to rest from the ice and skates?
Evgeny: I guess that's what I'll do. I'll get back to Petersburg and take a break. Get some good rest for a couple of days. Massage, swimming pool, banya-with honey and birch branches.

Interviewer: Did you expect such a successful performance from Brian Joubert?
Evgeny: Of Course. He greatly improved this past year. For some reason everyone forgot that Europeans is a sports competiion, not Plushenkofest. Defeat should serve a good purpose and become a ramp for the new rise.

Interviewer: Will you change anything in your programs by Worlds?
Evgeny: No. The problem is not the program, but me.

Interviewer: When did you feel that today is not your day?
Evgeny: When I fell on the flip. Getting up I already knew that I won't be European champion. I fought till the end, but this is sport. Here wins the strongest not overall, but in the given championship. Maybe Joubert needed today's triumph more than me.

Interviewer: So maybe you just gave him todays victory as a gift?
Evgeny: No. I didn't make him any gifts. Today he definetly won.
